Four Years Later, We’re Still Growing! Thanks Kansas City and Beyond!

What a difference four years makes!
January 2010. I had just reached an (ahem) milestone in years on this earth; and our only child wasn’t even two yet. I decided it was now or never–I was going to chuck the regular paycheck and strike out on my own, to stake my own claim. Most people were surprised, but supportive; a few cheery folks said I would regret it.
I still remember those heady first weeks after I told my employers that I dreamt of opening my own shop–they were extraordinarily kind and generous about letting me work part time as I set up my public relations practice. I was then lucky to pick up my first “anchor” client, the KU School of Business, referred by a former colleague and now longtime friend. Soon, I had several other clients and an offer to join the prestigious PRConsultants Group, managing Kansas and half of their Missouri territory.
AlexanderG Public Relations world HQ was me in my spare room with an underpowered computer, a cell phone and the unflagging support of my wife. I even had a few paying clients.
My first two years were great. Year three, 2012, was damn near miserable. It seemed that just as the limping economy started improving, I lost business. For a minute or two, there, I considered going back to the regular 9 to 5. Those minutes of doubt seemed eternal, but I firmly believe that you can survive almost anything if you just persist through the pain, loss, uncertainty or disappointment.
That persistence paid off: 2013 we tripled our business.
There are many, many people who made all this happen–people who cared enough to give me a try, people who told everyone they knew that my firm does good work. You know who you are, and don’t think for a minute I will ever forget it.
In the twilight of 2013, I got that feeling again–it was time to take the firm to the next level. First, I hired a talented young man named Noah, whose good nature, positive attitude and energy helped me get my bearings. Then, another big step–I hired another team member, Malena, who is also talented, committed to success and a blast to work with. Those two great hires made the next choice obvious: office space. (My spare room at home is way too small, anyway.)
So, as of today, AlexanderG Public Relations is located at 751 East 63rd Street, Suite 213, in the Brookside Modern Building. We’re working hard to add value to our services to current clients, and are actively seeking new clients as well.
Funny, even after four years, everything has a “startup” feel to it these days. It’s a good feeling. Hell, it’s a great feeling.
So, thanks to our friends and our clients: past, present and future.
I believe the best is yet to come. Let’s make big things happen!
