On PR, Speaking and Spider-man Bandaids

We’re pleased to welcome Devin to our summer intern program. Here are some of his thoughts on why he decided to pursue a career in Public Relations.–Alex

By Devin Rudicel

I learned to talk at a relatively young age, and from that point on, I wanted to talk to everyone. My mother had to be tempted to put me on a leash when at the grocery store, if she turned her back for a split second, I was off, talking to a random stranger about my Spider-Man bandage or what I had for lunch that day.

In elementary school, parent-teacher conferences always yielded the same report; “He’s very bright and he’s doing well on his schoolwork, but he talks too much in class.” I couldn’t help it. I loved to talk.

Still to this day, I love to communicate. I love to meet new people and network. I enjoy choosing just the right words to communicate exactly the message I want to put across.

What I find so appealing about public relations is the opportunity to assist a client in effectively communicating their message to help promote their business. It is a chance for me to use something I’m passionate about to further someone else’s passion. I want to help develop a client’s message and present content in a way that will help to grow their business.

In public relations and social media strategic planning, the key is to package information and present it in a format that grabs the attention of the targeted audience. I can use my communication skills to develop content that brings exposure for the client.

I am excited to begin to enter the PR industry. Through this internship, I can get valuable, hands-on experience and enhance my skills moving forward. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to learn about PR outside of the classroom. I am looking forward to contributing to AlexanderG Public Relations in any way I can. It’s finally time to put all of that talking to use.
