I Embrace My Inner Meh, Fo’shizzle… via @mollzz94

By Molly Brown

Whether I choose to admit it or not, I am one of those people who refuses to join in on trends as they happen. I’m more of a “wait until after its cool” type of person; call me hipster if you must. It could clothes, technology, food, or even phrases and words but chances are I will refuse to conform and then about 6 months to a year later its like I forget everything I ever “hated” about the trend.

With the Oxford English Dictionary recently adding words like “meh” and “fo’shizzle” to their collectionScreen Shot 2015-07-07 at 4.27.03 PM, my first reaction was disgust. It also included thoughts like, “What is happening to society?” But then I got to thinking maybe its not the worst thing that could happen.

Have you ever said a word and thought, “Who came up with that?” for any word at all? I know I wonder about that all the time. So even if you don’t take “selfies” or wear “jeggings,” lets take another perspective on these new words. Although we may not know the exact person who came up with the word, I think its cool that I have seen so many words added to the dictionary that reflect what’s going on in the 21st century.

Yes, I know they update the dictionary every year but if I asked you 15 years ago could you have predicted that “meh” would be one of those words? So instead of wondering why in the world this is happening, embrace them. Our culture is constantly taking on new forms and its time to appreciate every single one of them.
