15 Seconds of Twitter Fame by @mollzz94

By Molly Brown

I’ve spent the first week of the spring semester catching up with friends, going to class, working, and getting back into school mode; leaving little time for blogging, checking e-mails or even being on Twitter for that matter. On January 25, I was innocently watching the SAG Awards with my little sis. As we watched, we kept seeing posts about Miss Universe. So, I decided to turn it on, little did I know, this was one of the greatest decisions, ever.

Naturally, we were drawn into the pageant and fascinated by how beautiful each girl was. As they picked the top ten, they announced Nick Jonas would be performing. I have always been a fan, but more recently I have been obsessed with his solo album, self-titled Nick Jonas. Obviously, Shea and I were thrilled to see him perform. As he started singing, we were jumping around the room dancing and singing along to his songs. We both had tweeted a few things regarding Nick Jonas, and I had tagged him in a few tweets telling Shea jokingly, “How funny would it be if Nick Jonas actually saw my tweet.”

I clearly thought nothing of this as I said it out loud because what person actually gets retweeted by celebrities…. As we calmed down after his performance, I mentioned something about how the Miss Universe pageant should just be all of them and Shea said that there should be a petition. Someway or another, these words got into my brain and I decided to tweet:

Moments later, I got a notification saying @nickjonas retweeted my tweet. I couldn’t believe my eyes, but all of the sudden my Twitter notifications started going through the roof. As I started hyperventilating, Shea also informed me that he replied with a “ha thanks” to my tweet. I can’t describe the excitement I felt.

Nick Jonas retweeted MY tweet.

Right after he performed at the MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT. NICK JONAS. Not only was I “totally fan girling”, as some people might say; but also as a public relations major I was thrilled to see my twitter blowing up like it did. Almost 6 months later, I still get the occasional retweet or favorite. See the tweet here. http://bit.ly/1CWbTIU

Wow. I still can’t believe this happened. My (first?) fifteen minutes of Twitter fame.
